„Ethik heute“ ist ein Ruf aus der Not der Zeit. Das Buch nimmt aus sittlicher Sicht Stellung zu Gefährdungen und unabsehbaren Risiken, die dem stürmischen Fortschritt der gegenwärtigen zivilisatorischen Entwicklung erwachsen. Da erhebt sich zunächst das Bedürfnis, den Sinn des Sittlichen neu und grundsätzlich zu bedenken. Im Umgang des Menschen mit sich selbst, im sozialen Bezug und in seiner Einstellung zu Mitwelt und Umwelt gilt es, die innere Forderung des Sittlichen wachzuhalten.
An einzelnen Beispielen wird aufgezeigt, welch entscheidende Bedeutung heute der persönlichen Haltung in Forschung und Technik, in Wirtschaft und Politik und im Zusammenleben von Menschen unterschiedlicher Glaubensformen zukommt.
„Ethik heute“ ist zugleich ein dringlicher Aufruf zur Erneuerung und Vertiefung sittlicher Bildung, zu ihrer Verwurzelung im familiären Leben, im Bildungsanliegen der Schulen aller Stufen und zur Entfaltung neuer Gemeinschaftskräfte in der Gesellschaft.
In der Besinnung auf die Grunderfahrung des Ethischen und in der Vertiefung sittlicher Bildung liegt die Hoffnung, die Gefährdungen und Bedrängnisse unserer Zeit auf die Zukunft hin zu mildern.

“Ethik heute” is a plea born of the dilemma of the times. The book takes up a position, from an ethical point of view, on dangers and unpredictable risks which grow out of the tumultuous progress of the current development of
civilisation.
The first thing to arise is the need to reflect on the meaning of the ethical in a new and fundamental way. In the way in which human beings deal with themselves, in the social reference and in their attitude towards their contemporaries and their environment, the main thing is to keep the internal demand of the ethical alive. Individual examples are used to show which fundamental significance the personal attitude now has in research and technology, economics and politics and in the community of people with different faiths. At the same time, "Ethik heute" is an urgent plea for the renewal and intensification of ethical education, its taking root in family life, the educational intentions of schools of all levels and the development of new community forces in society.
In the reflection on the fundamental experience of the ethical and the intensification of ethical education resides the hope that it will in future be possible to alleviate the dangers and dilemmas of our times.
